When the second industrial revolutiuon came to the United States there was a large need for labor in the factories. To fill this gap the owners turned to children. Coal, textile, and other industries utilized children as labor at will. Children as young as six years old worked hard hours for little or no pay. They were forced to work 12-16 hours a day, the same as adults. Children not only worked long hours, but in horrible conditions.
